Match Box Democracy - 2

Shoddy state of affairs...

What happens when a Chief Minister is arrested on Corruption Charges in Tamil Nadu?

Protests - violent mostly..., road blockades, fast, human chains, hartal (closing down of ALL commercial activities at the least).

What happens on the day when her Bail Plea hearing is scheduled?

In anticipation of more violence, most of the Schools and Colleges declare the day as holiday. Students are asked to compensate by attending classes on a Saturday.

What happens when the Bail Plea hearing is adjourned for another day?

No! It is not a copy paste error...this is reality!!

Schools and Colleges were closed on Wednesday 1st October because it was the Bail-plea-hearing day.

Gandhi Jayanti holiday on 2nd.

Dussera holidays on 3rd and 4th.

Saturday and Sunday holidays on 5th and 6th.

Bakrid holiday on 7th instead of the originally announced 6th because the Head Priest requested for a change based on the delay on Moon crescent sighting or whatever.

And now, 8th is a holiday because the Bail-Plea would be up for hearing on that day.

In effect, the whole state has been locked down for a full 8 days more or less! Who cares about productivity loss anyway in a state where freebies rule the sentiments?

Very annoying as normal life is disrupted like this. Even the students don't enjoy this unexpected break as it happened in the middle of nowhere (i.e. not the usual study holidays before/ holidays after exams).

Bottom line is, nobody knows when normalcy would return...all in the name of democracy!

I am sad particularly because all these events are unfolding during the week the Great One (MKG) was born...

Maybe I change the title to Match-stick democracy (if the situation demands another post) as it seems to ignite quite easily.
