Weaving Air - with loomy passion!

A motely group of us visited a textile factory this week and met with a guy who works with a burning passion to transform weaving into a respectable job. A third gen business kid, he has transformed his ailing family business into a profitable social venture - a weaver in his company at Pollachi makes 30k per month. Each weaver dictates the terms of his engagement and even sets his own salary! Finest muslin weaving technology is learnt and adopted to make stoles that are so thin and so light in weight, they r branded as 'woven air' and sold thru international chains!!! all from sitting in Pollachi! He has tinkered with the looms so much with technology so that working those looms even women can do! Students from NID, the premier design institution in India, intern here and work from concept to implementation of newer design influenced by Indian elements as their course project work and as a recognition see their photo and name in the tag that goes with the real products sold to discerning markets - all within a few months. This guy also runs a school that propogates a functioning student lead Parliament with a two party political syastem with annual elections for President, PM, MP, MLAs and Councillors and student owned corporates that take school premises on lease and maintains them for profit using school's own currency.  The one earning highest amount gets free scholarship for next academic year!!! Class students write complaints like water cooler not functioning to corridors being dirty, to panchayat councillors from their classes and follow up meetings happen. This guy snows some cute complaints written by students and says the main reason for the complaints concept is to encourage them in writing letters! The teachers here just focus on guiding students (he says the kids learn by their own in quick time and hence 'teaching' per se is not the case anymore!). We were completely bowled over by what we saw there. His residence, factory and school all sit within the same campus. Tell u, this guy is living his passionate dream big time! I came back mighty impressed. Google 'ethicus' to know more...
