Weekend Special!
A motley group of us who are quite busy in our daily life spread across two geographies pooled some capital and started a small business. With great enthusiasm we continue operating our business which is growing nicely. The biggest problem for us is not the B word (business) but the A word (Accounting)!
The way we operate is, we order some material, sell it against cash / credit through multiple channels in different geographies, collect the cash in different places and...use it at times for whatever personal purpose (though we tend not to) till a need comes for ordering more material (we are not professionals yet:-). When it is time to order, we bring in the moolah and do good on our respective parts!
Often times we attempted to keep track of the cash flow, using scraps of paper, Excel spreadsheets, Google drive and what not. Slowly the investment picture began to appear in our not so balanced blank sheet but we were not satisfied with the slow progress. As the financial year end was approaching, we decided to give it a serious try one more time with an idea that we would start 'clean' at last...
A couple of us, let us call one as (tor)Mentor (M) :-) and the other as Accountant (A), fixed up a quiet time in a late night to chat over phone plus whatsapp to clarify where we were with respect to numbers once more and we did begin in earnest. This is how it went!:
We resolved to find the cash balance (from the business) lying with each one of us and the inventory lying around, add these to arrive at business worth. The idea was to get this done within a couple of days which happen to be a weekend. Since we never closed our accounting conversation ever so quickly, we switched to whatsapp and went on for a slight detour before coming back to Accounting...and how!
(Preamble : M is an agnostic. A is out and out a believer. These two continue from their last detour from their last accounting related conversation :-)
[3/30, 22:32] M: Hindutva
says human body is just a vessel for the soul. In fact, if we think deeper,
hindutva is just a sticker stuck on the vessel...
In the beginning, there was
only one way of life all over the world. So there was no need for any name for
this way of life. Later on due to various reasons many different ways of life
emerged. Since we are good in attaching labels to group them easily, we started
using Hinduism, Christianity etc...
Do we sincerely believe that
our soul will be reborn as a Hindu?!
Thought for the day!
[3/30, 22:32] M: Er...weekend!
[3/30, 22:58] A: :-)
[3/30, 23:01] A: The soul is
omnipresent...I suppose we can label it anything.
[3/30, 23:04] M: Why to tag
it then?!
[3/30, 23:06] A: Tat is a
function of the human mind
[3/30, 23:06] M: Conditioned
by...
[3/30, 23:07] M: Religion of course
eh?
[3/30, 23:07] A: I suppose
the human nature
[3/30, 23:08] M: There is
nothing called human nature...we r conditioned to think like there is...
[3/30, 23:09] A: Ya,the
conditioning comes from the thought faculty, which is the human mind and hence
I wud think it is in man's nature to operate tat way
[3/30, 23:10] A: Conditioning
is in every aspect of man..And spirituality guides to break free of that bond
and go beyond
[3/30, 23:10] M: God or Siva
or whatever, why shld such a thing exist in human form? It wldnt have been
man's nature when he was roaming the wild earth eons ago
[3/30, 23:11] M: Hey, the
very notion of spirituality bonds / limits us to a particular way of thought
and action
[3/30, 23:12] M: Who defines
what is a bond and what is beyond?
[3/30, 23:12] A: :-) the form
is jus one of the ways to identify the omnipresent
[3/30, 23:13] M: Why shld we?!
[3/30, 23:13] M: Who defines
omnipresent?
[3/30, 23:14] M: I am not on
bhang! Oh my, maybe the onion dosas I had for dinner
[3/30, 23:14] A: It's not a
compulsion...But a possibility ...A man can seek if he wants to
[3/30, 23:14] A:
[3/30, 23:15] M: The point
is, we take so many things for granted, we never question them...
[3/30, 23:15] M: In a way JK
is right...
[3/30, 23:15] A: And ...Why
shud we question
[3/30, 23:16] A: Not tat iam
saying we shudnt
[3/30, 23:17] A: I hav read
very minimal of JK...I will read more
[3/30, 23:17] M: He asks us
to discard everything we learnt (conditioning) and enquire ourselves, without
leaning on any wisdom that inherently is based on some one else's wisdom which
relies on his past experience...
[3/30, 23:18] M: Never mind J
K. The point is, can we see evrythng new, unconditionally? Can we attempt to do
so?
[3/30, 23:18] A:
Hmmm...spirituality too is about enquiring oneself and to find out for yourself
isn't it
[3/30, 23:18] M: U call it by
any name!
[3/30, 23:19] A: Yes tats
possible ...Tats wat yoga/meditation is all about
[3/30, 23:20] M: What is
spirit anyway?!
Yoga, medit...they r all
conditioned responses again!
[3/30, 23:20] M: Can we not
'learn' anything and just experience living?
[3/30, 23:21] M: உனக்கும் பாங் வேணுமா ;-) (txlation done later: Do you also need Bhang?)
[3/30, 23:21] A: True
tat...But t message they hold is tat one can practise and realise it for oneself
...Don't hav to go jus by the text...It is all about realising for
oneself...Tat is a possibility worth pursuing
[3/30, 23:22] A:
cheers
[3/30, 23:23] M: Just imagine
for a moment that we live completely in the presence without any prejudice and
extend it forever...wld that need a spiritual or religious coat?
[3/30, 23:23] A: Wat we call
"learning" is actually "discovering" as per Vivekananda ...He
says all knowledge is forever there, it is for us to discover...
[3/30, 23:24] A: Nope I
suppose
[3/30, 23:24] M: So u r
limiting ur learning to what vivekananda experienced! Isn't that a
serious limitation?
[3/30, 23:25] A: Nope...He
talks about the limitless!!
[3/30, 23:26] M: Viv maybe
right, maybe wrong.. Who r we to judge?
[3/30, 23:26] M: Limitless in
his understanding maybe entirely different from ur or my understanding...
[3/30, 23:27] M: That is the
whole point...
[3/30, 23:27] A: We don't hav
to
[3/30, 23:27] M: A starfish
may think of its creator as a super powered...starfish! U get my drift?
[3/30, 23:28] M: So is the
case with giraffe!
[3/30, 23:28] A: It's for us
to experience ...He jus shows a way, a possibility ... The paths are infinite
[3/30, 23:28] M: The very
idea of a guru limits our potential experience...
[3/30, 23:29] A: Yes I get it
... It may be an infinite possibility ... And it's all acceptable
[3/30, 23:29] M: Like the
footprints in front of us that we r tempted to follow...thereby skipping all
other possibilities...
[3/30, 23:30] A: The guru is
like a light ... Not a necessity for the journey ... But one of the best guides
if one goes on such a journey
[3/30, 23:30] A: Ramana
didn't have a guru I think ..
[3/30, 23:30] M: The very
idea of life as a journey - a good motivational gimmick...
[3/30, 23:30] M: Yeah true,
he didn't have
[3/30, 23:31] A: Not life
...the journey to realisation ...Whatever tat is ...
[3/30, 23:31] M: If u have a
pygmy guru u only see a pygmy world...u see...
[3/30, 23:32] A:I would seriously suggest you to read this...All answers to your questions are here
[3/30, 23:33] M: Personally i
am not sure about anything in life except the awareness of just this moment.
Why can't one just enjoy it instead of looking for a key?
[3/30, 23:33] A: And what if
you had the god as your guru
[3/30, 23:34] M: Oh sure. Tx.
Bhang effect worn off just looking at him
[3/30, 23:34] A: Ha ha ha
[3/30, 23:34] M: Who is god
by the way?/why shld there be one? Oh no, here we go again!!!!!
[3/30, 23:35] A:
it's an endless loop
[3/30, 23:35] M: Hey, this is
like we trying to figure out the edge of cosmos...yeah endless loop...
[3/30, 23:35] A: I didn't say
"who"
[3/30, 23:36] M: True...
Still good to have a conversation like this once in a while...
[3/30, 23:37] A: Ya ...And
try not to go mad
[3/30, 23:37] A: Each soul is
potentially divine. The goal is to manifest this Divinity within by controlling
nature, external and internal. Do this either by work, or worship, or psychic
control, or philosophy —by one, or more, or all of these —and be free. This is
the whole of religion. Doctrines, or dogmas, or rituals, or books, or temples,
or forms, are but secondary details. - viv
[3/30, 23:38] M: May ur god
and guru lead u into ur spiritual goal...old monk?!
[3/30, 23:39] A:
🏻
[3/30, 23:39] A: How has all
the knowledge in the world been gained but by the concentration of the powers
of the mind? The world is ready to give up its secrets if we only know how to
knock, how to give it the necessary blow. The strength and force of the blow
come through concentration. There is no limit to the power of the human mind.
The more concentrated it is, the more power is brought to bear on one point;
that is the secret. It is easy to concentrate the mind on external things, the
mind naturally goes outwards; but not so in the case of religion, or
psychology, or metaphysics, where the subject and the object, are one. The
object is internal, the mind itself is the object, and it is necessary to study
the mind itself —mind studying mind. We know that there is the power of the mind
called reflection. I am talking to you. At the same time I am standing aside,
as it were, a second person, and knowing and hearing what I am talking. You
work and think at the same time, while a portion of your mind stands by and
sees what you are thinking. The powers of the mind should be concentrated and
turned back upon itself, and as the darkest places reveal their secrets before
the penetrating rays of the sun, so will this concentrated mind penetrate its
own innermost secrets. Thus will we come to the basis of belief, the real
genuine religion. We will perceive for ourselves whether we have souls, whether
life is of five minutes or of eternity, whether there is a God in the universe
or more. It will all be revealed to us. This is what Raja-Yoga proposes to
teach. The goal of all its teaching is how to concentrate the minds, then, how
to discover the innermost recesses of our own minds, then, how to generalise
their contents and form our own conclusions from them. It, therefore, never
asks the question what our religion is, whether we are Deists or Atheists,
whether Christians, Jews, or Buddhists. We are human beings; that is
sufficient. Every human being has the right and the power to seek for religion.
Every human being has the right to ask the reason, why, and to have his
question answered by himself, if he only takes the trouble.
[3/30, 23:39] M: I wld love
to read him though! Tx
[3/30, 23:39] A: Yup u shud
... Highly recommended
[3/30, 23:41] M: By the way,
us the thinker who creates the thought or the thought that creates the thinker?
[3/30, 23:41] M: *is, not us
[3/30, 23:42] M: U know the
answer?
[3/30, 23:43] A: Nope I don't
... I wud luv to discover that ...And this may be a way to get to tat
[3/30, 23:43] M: Me neither
[3/30, 23:43] M: Let us keep
walking...and keep talking.
[3/30, 23:44] A: 🏻
I like this journey
[3/30, 23:44] M: Quite
interesting that we r approaching the same in entirely different ways!
[3/30, 23:44] A: Isn't it!!!
[3/30, 23:45] M: இதுக்கு ஒழுங்கா account ஐயே submit பண்ணிருக்கலாமுல்ல?!!???? (txlation done later: Man! Instead of spending time in these endless loopy topics, you could have focused more on Accounting and submitted it by now!)
[3/30, 23:46] M: Hey, quite
an interesting thread. Let us catch up on this as we make progress...
[3/30, 23:46] A: Boss antha
accounta solve panrathuku...Pesama infinity ya thedi pogalam (txlated later: Boss I would rather prefer searching for infinity than solving the account!)
[3/30, 23:46] A: Yup let's do
[3/30, 23:46] M: Good nt then
[3/30, 23:47] A:
[3/30, 23:47] A: Good nite
