Murder most foul

28 February, 1986, midnight.

A free world supporter, staunch activist Prime Minister the world has ever seen, was shot dead when he was walking back with his family after watching a movie in Stockholm, without any security cover.

Shot from close range, he died on the spot. Rest of the family survived.

Through his belief in Non Alignment movement and solidarity he showed with the suppressed black freedom movement in Apartheid Africa, the ostracised people of Cuba, Chile, the Prague Spring of 1968... You get an idea.

World powers of those times, USA, Russia, South Africa and local right wingers of Sweden were extremely uncomfortable with him because they perceived him as a leftist; you know? he was doing just right!

Who pulled the trigger?

With such powers aligned against, could be anybody's guess!

Swedish police pursued many many leads but came up with nought.

Thirty four years later, Swedish police had concluded that Olof Palme was killed by a Graphics designer, who had trained in military, who had access to guns, who hated Palme for doing the right things and making the right noise. Police pinned the crime posthumously on him because his eyewitness statement was not corroborated by other eye witnesses at the crime scene.

Weapon used for the kill - never found.

Posthumously?

Yes, this person known as Skandia Man, killed himself after silently watching the case proceedings for fourteen years.

Probably because of guilt, probably because of pressure from actual killer(s), probably because... who knows and who cares?!

In our free world, freedom of expression and expression of freedom mostly get stopped by bullets.

When fired, they (bullets) may be construed as full stops but the indomitable spirit of humanity converts the full stops into commas / semi colons, always, and continue its march towards a Just world.

Today I raise a toast for you, Palme!
