Deivas and Magic...

Kantara The Legend - Chapter 1 Review

Was a spectacular upgrade to the Kantara Franchise!

Rishab didn't seem to act; he became! Such level of conviction is telling in the details and the lavish mount. Kudos to him and the team that delivered his vision. The visuals were awesomely stunning!

I personally did not feel the connect though, with his universe, unlike his earlier Kantara which had lots of novelty and 'never seen before wow' factors...

Even his repeated 'Oooooaaaaaah's became boring after a while and even the 'arrival' of multiple deivas thru him became kind of a 'Dumb Charade' with super enthued clan identifying each 'deiva' with a joy similar to cracking the word in the game...

The thing that bothered me thru the two parts and pointedly in the second part was the way the folklore deities were narrated as subordinates of Shiva and that only Shiva could defend even their deities and that black forces could 'arrest' their deities but never Shiva.

This narrative is problematic due to the very aim of it; tribal gods are all only subordinates and that all such tribal gods are part of Hindu system. Most recently the tribes of Uttarkhand have been agitating against what they perceive as 'Identity theft' and 'Loss of distinct culture'...

A,special word about dubbed dialogues in Tamil; just Gross! Can you imagine a King and his Son asking each other to 'Shut the **** up!' in chaste Tamil in a historic movie?!!! The king says, 'நீ மூடிகிட்டு இரு!' and the drunk + wastrel Son shouts back at the king, 'நீங்க மூடிகிட்டு இருங்க'!!! Hope this last piece at least reaches @RishabShettyofficial as these kind of dialogues and the Shin Chan like Tamil dialogues in the name of comedy dialogues were big let downs.
