This Joker is serious. Seriously!
From Commodus, the arch villain of Maximus Gladiator, to Arthur the hero Joker, Joaquin Phoenix has come a full circle too!
With that crackling, gagging, choking laughter that instantly triggers some kind of a sympathy in us, with that emaciated body and delusional mind, he leads us warmly, sorrowfully, fearfully, sadly and masterfully into the much much darker world of Joker and the world (our real world!) that surrounds him, throwing in some amazing solo dance sequences then and there.
A deeply hurt mind, stomped upon by society and a delusional Mom, often weaves in and out of hallucination and abject anger due to unfair rejection by the society epitomised by Bruce Wayne's definition of clowns, does some serious damage to the perpetrators and ends up where it usually does.
Every hero is a villain. Every villain is a hero. It is perception that plays endless tricks actually. Joker is a dark proof...
In Nolan's Gotham (and in so many earlier director's Gotham city), Bruce Wayne carries an anger towards his parents' killer, justifiable by and to mainstream thinking.
In Joker's world, Wayne senior is the villain. Joker is the real victim. So he kills him.
If only all those Waynes watch Joker, they will realise their mistakes and seek redemption even from such clowns!
Daniel Day Lewis is one of the best ever actors Hollywood has ever seen.
Joaquin is right up there and rightfully deserved that Oscar.
This Joker is dead serious about becoming a stand up comedian and Robert De Niro even dies to vouch for it and how!
