Who anchors 'Republic' India?
If you think it is Arnab Goswami, then you MUST read this post!
Happy Republic.
Once upon a time there lived a farmer.
He happily ploughed his field when the time was right (I use wttwr hereafter), sowed seeds wttwr, assisted its growth to a needed state, harvested it wttwr and then he did something wonderful;
He remembered all the folks who rallied around him to help him succeed in his pursuit of food grains and produced food grains for ALL OF THEM;
the team that mined the ore that went into making his plough,
the team that carried the ore to the smithy
the team that hammered out his plough,
the team that made the handle of the plough,
the team that put together the plough,
the team that fixed his house while he toiled away in his land,
the team that made all the materials that went into fixing his house,
the team that made / fixed his slippers while he toiled away in his land,
the team that made his dress while he toiled away in his farm,
the team that washed his sweat drenched dresses while he toiled away in his farm,
the team that shaved and groomed his hair,
the team that cooked food for him,
the team that brought food for him,
the cattle that gave him milk, manure and bull power to help him toil smarter,
the team that managed auspicious events in his house while he toiled in his land,
the team that managed inauspicious events in his house while he toiled in his land,
the team that helped him recover faster from those rare illnesses so that he could toil some more in his land,
the team that maintained the water ways to his crops while he toiled in his land,
the team that maintained the drainage systems for excess water to flow out of his land while he toiled in his land...
The team in turn did what they did with even more gratitude.
So he did, they did and kept doing for few million years before the teams that assisted him all along had invented something called Democracy first and Market Farming next because he was able to produce much more (with his seasoned experience) than what was needed...
Then everything got changed!
That farmer who never had to move from his farm during Hell and High tide (because the whole of non farming humanity was working tirelessly to support him feed them; a wonderful thing called Circular Economy), had to move his harvest lock stock and barrel, into his tractor and drive it to the Capital of his beloved Nation one wintry morning, for the love of his beloved Nation and for the faith he had in the benefits of circular economy which some economists, bureaucrats, technocrats, capitalists, financing guys and politicians have started dismantling letter by letter...
So bad was their efforts, the letters that remain from the knocked down circular economy spell c, r, i, m, e and nothing else.
He is still toughing it out there; prepared to continue there till he gets back the circular economy or reach his Creator with unfulfilled wish.
Winter will soon yield to Spring. We would celebrate our Republic day yet again, well before Spring, tomorrow... The freezing farmer, battered and bruised by rains, ice cold winds and indifferent governance, has swelled into few hundred thousand instead of quietly dying down under heaps of snow covered apathy of a hundred crore+ consumers (minus few hundred thousand producers of the food for these 100,000+!)
"Spirit of India cannot be demonstrated in a better way!" so thought I till I saw the swell of a hundred thousand+ tractors, many of them driven by women farmers / house members of farmers, rolling down today towards our collective apathy!
Oh my, petty politics and capitalistic grandstanding not withstanding, this Nation, my Nation, has its soul intact, alive and kicking!
Happy Republic day folks. 'Re'tire your tired apathy, Re'invent' your soul connect to your foodplate and the farmers behind it, 'Re'connect with their cause and help them succeed. Remember, they are fighting for our food and safe guarding our wallets! Market economies elsewhere stand testimony as their people knew too well what happened to their food and their wallets due to their apathy while they spent their days dreaming about eating exotic stuff from half way around the world or even more distant places, neatly packed, shrink wrapped and delivered as per choice, taste, place and time!
Time to wake up and get back to drafting board to chalk out a dignity filled sustainable future for our Farmers. If they stay happy, our Republic will stay happy!
