Conscientious Indian?
Two pictures (I took recently) broke my heart.
The first one, a middle aged famished couple standing in front of a popular eatery near a busy railway station.
People walked in, walked out, people passed them by in two wheelers, three wheelers, four wheelers...none seemed to have even noticed them.
It was 6.30 in the morning.
I got them some breakfast pack from the same hotel and requested them to sit somewhere and have it hot.
They politely nodded and resumed their post and posture, looking for cash...
Second one is "blink and you miss" kind. Saw them sitting in a fully loaded veggie truck topped with some special flowers and leaves used to decorate our houses during Pongal festival.
Somebody honked their horn heavily and the lady woke up. She then took out her mobile phone and started talking to someone.
My mind connected these two images instantly; the digital connect...also divides people... If the division is visible then we can build a bridge of some sort to connect them back but if the division is invisible?
Wish MY India Become Their India Too.
The venue of these two snaps are frequented by traffic cops, collectorate staff including District Collector, Senior Police officers and politicians. Still, none of them seem to be bothered...
I see the root of the problem tied invariably to our electoral system.
Question to Chief of Election Commission:
I want to vote to a honest, doer who cares for our people; "people" must include these two pairs too.
Most / All the candidates contesting elections are publicly known corrupt / corruption plus or minus other cases pending on them.
Can you ensure that only CLEAN candidates can contest?
"Innocent till proven guilty" is good, practical for private lives.
When somebody steps into public service, this approach must be changed to "Guilty until proven Innocent". Yes, strengthen our judicial systems to ensure this instead of calling this approach impractical!
If not, then why conduct elections at all?
NOTA doesn't remove the stain of corruption from our elections by any stretch of imagination...
